Con-Temporary studio space
What stories can be gathered from the waterways, on the edge of the city? What imaginary futures can arise from urban waste? With this art project, we want to rethink the use of materials defined as useless and obsolete, giving them a new identity.
Although it is well known that most of the waste found in the sea originates from land, there is still little attention paid to the role played by rivers and canals as debris routes to the sea. This project started with a journey that is an intimate observation of the aquatic system of Groningen and Assen. It has been done by choosing a sustainable way of traveling: a bike and a trailer acting as a mobile studio. During the journey, the artists collected stories, waste, and data that has been shown and transformed later with a projected live-action in the public space.
The interactive installation presented at the end of the journey was triggered by the audience. The same bicycles used to travel became part of a mobile cinema and were used as a source of energy to activate projected visual storytelling. It’s the story of a journey that unfolds while cycling. The aim of the project is to bring attention to important issues such as environmental pollution through an artistic perspective and a participatory action.
